Welcome to Coding Club
Berthold Academy takes pride in our after-school interactive coding club. Each Trimester, students code applications using various learning systems and program robots. Our club offers three levels of difficulty. Each level introduces a new computer science concept with a set of fun app projects.
Beginner Level: Students learn the basics of coding. This includes learning to recognize problems and developing problem solving abilities. Designed for younger students, materials we use helps students to learn simple coding commands and introduces programing to any child. No previous coding experience is required!
Intermediate Level: Students are introduced to a more advanced system. This includes introduction to various programming paradigms and building proficiency in programming language(s). Focus is to bring the excitement of learning STEM and coding to all students. This also includes introduction to cyber robotics.
Advanced Level: Students write programs to solve complex problems using cutting edge technologies. Students interested in cyber robotics program mBots using mBlock. mBlock is an educator software that allows students to create programs to make communication between robots and computer.
Our club takes place after school from 4pm-5pm and is open to any child, even children who are not currently enrolled at our school!
Our club recently attended the Cyber Robotics Coding Competition during the USA Science and Engineering Festival at the Washington Convention Center. We were awarded the Grace Hopper Award for being the group with the most female participation and placed fifth overall.
We were mentioned in the Reston Now Press Releases as a result of our win! Visit this link to read more: https://www.restonnow.com/press-releases/berthold-academy-wins-coding-award-on-highest-female-participation/
